The Division for Diversity and Inclusion (DDI) is collaborating with the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) and academic units to create a vehicle, the Diversity Grants Program (DGP), to provide support for faculty development in the areas of diversity pedagogy, curriculum transformation, and institutionalization of inclusive approaches to teaching, learning, and assessment at Missouri State University. DGP is an excellent supplement to research recent course development, and it is an opportunity to improve upon course content.
Description of the Diversity Grants Program
Faculty from participating units will be selected to create and implement a MSU diversity project or activity designed to expand faculty pedagogical expertise or transform curriculum content relative to diversity. The project or activity can focus on research, curriculum development, or teaching methodology. Increased awareness and improved practice are expected to develop as a result of the DGP project or activity, thereby increasing the number of courses, faculty and or activities at MSU which have diversity components or are solely focused on diversity.
Diversity grant recipients will receive up to $600.00 per project. Funds may be used to conduct research, purchase resources, or fund activities associated with a DGP project and subsequent course development. These projects will become central to the MSU academic diversity initiatives portfolio.
Recipients will be expected to write a report and present their projects on campus at a FCTL event on or before August 30, 2017 and are strongly encouraged to share the findings of their projects at other scholarly disciplinary specific venues.
*Implementation of course development, activity results and research projects will begin in summer/fall 2016.
Since these projects will become central to the development of an MSU diversity portfolio, they should be designed to support recommendations found in the 2015 Climate Study and campus diversity-related key performance indicators (https://mis.missouristate.edu/KeyPerformanceIndicators/). While approval by unit administration is required for any funded proposal, applicants are encouraged to seek additional support from their academic units as well.
