Juggling the different aspects of a Title IX office

From awareness and training to investigations to bystander intervention efforts, the Title IX office covers a broad spectrum of services and support. This session will provide an overview of strategies that help create awareness on campus of what Title IX is all about, including: When to report an incident, efforts to reduce instances of interpersonal violence and encourage a culture of reporting. Participants will also gain a brief overview of the Green Dot Bystander Intervention campaign at MSU.

In 2015, Jill Patterson became the first person to hold the post of Title IX coordinator at Missouri State University. Since then, she has seen the office grow to also include a Title IX investigator, a Green Dot bystander intervention coordinator and an administrative assistant.

She is a member of the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education and serves as a member of the Child Abuse and Neglect Review Board, appointed by the Governor of Missouri.

Patterson graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law with her Juris Doctor. She has worked as an assistant public defender, an assistant prosecuting attorney, chief legal counsel for the Greene County Sheriff, in a civil law firm and as an instructor in the psychology and criminology departments at Missouri State University.
